A former Bay Area estate of the crooner Bing Crosby has come on the market for $13,750,000.
Built in 1930, the English country manor sits in the upscale enclave of Hillsborough, CA, about 20 miles south of San Francisco. It became the sedate home of the singer, his actress wife, Kathryn Crosby, and their three children in 1963.
They had reportedly tired of the Hollywood lifestyle and relocated north to flee its “hustle and bustle,” according to a news report at the time. The performer reportedly purchased the Tudor-style mansion for $175,000.
But their time in this particular mansion was short-lived, as the family then moved to a larger home in the area, a 32-room property nearby, where Kathryn continued to reside after Crosby’s death.
The harmonious mansion on the market still has plenty of old Hollywood glamour from a bygone era. On 9,845 square feet, it has10 bedrooms, and 10.5 bathrooms, and the public rooms include a beamed ballroom or living area that opens out to a terrace, as well as a formal dining room, which also opens outside for al fresco dining.
The current owners, who purchased the property in 2014 for $8 million, embarked on a major renovation of the home.
Elements of the layout include high ceilings, two fireplaces, a study, library with built-ins, family room, wet bar, and redone mudroom.
The updated gourmet, eat-in kitchen features custom cabinetry, a Wolf range, Sub-Zero refrigerator, wine cooler, large island, and built-in breakfast nook.

Rancho Mirage, CA, came on the market in 2018. Built in the desert in 1957, the single-level, midcentury modern residence with a Moroccan theme offers expansive indoor-outdoor space, walls of glass, a pool, and gardens, and boasted legendary visitors including John F. Kennedy.
On and off the market since 2010, the storied property last listed for $3.5 million last year, and is no longer on the market.
Crosby, who died in 1977 at the age of 74, was the ultimate entertainer. He recorded 1,600 songs and starred in about 70 movies. The Oscar winner was also known for his singing style, exemplified in the evergreen hit “White Christmas,” which has sold over 50 million copies.
