Listed for $7.25 million, the enormous, 15,076-square-foot unit takes up the entire fifth and sixth floors of the building on Camp Street.
“It’s the crown jewel luxury residential building in central Texas,” says the listing agent, Michael Reisor with Douglas Elliman Real Estate.
Built in 1926, the building operated as the Duerler Candy Factory for a few years. Several other businesses occupied the space over the decades, and it sat abandoned for a time.
In 2001, Linda Pace, a philanthropist and owner of Pace Picante Sauce, bought the building.
“She renovated this building and converted it to be a very prestigious residential building,” Reisor says. “It’s a very unique space, with an industrial loft feel.”
It’s also pure nirvana for an art lover.

In the penthouse unit, which was designed specifically for Pace, white is the dominant color. That stark choice was made to show off all the art on display.
Pace was an art collector and passed away in 2007. She maintained an extensive collection, which is now housed in the Ruby City museum, next door to this property.
In 2016, the current owner purchased the penthouse from Pace’s estate. It figures that he’s also an art collector and gallerist.
“Every wall is backed by 1-inch thick plywood, to be able to hang art. The white really emphasizes that gallery feel,” Reisor explains. “The owner did a good job of warming it up with the furnishings, and the art, and the objects that are currently in there. It’s really just a blank canvas.”
An added bonus is the additional 2,000 square feet of climate-controlled art storage.

Aside from its aesthetic amenities, the residence offers six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, and two kitchens. And thanks to its high ceilings, the penthouse has an extremely airy feel.
MORE FROM REALTOR:
“The ceilings are soaring. The fifth floor is 11.5 feet and the sixth-floor ceilings go up to 19 feet,” Reisor says.
For easy access, there are two elevators. A cargo and a passenger elevator can shuttle an owner between the two floors, as well as from the parking area and lobby.
