Distillery owners put Lake Tahoe waterfront estate up for sale

by

A sprawling waterfront compound on the eastern side of Lake Tahoe has hit the market for $55 million.

Known as the Wovoka estate, it is owned by Christopher and Camille Bently, owners of Bently Heritage Distillery, which is closing operations in Minden, Nevada. The nearly 5-acre property in Glenbrook near Zephyr Cove includes six structures — the main house, two guest houses, a waterside studio and two “tree forts.” The compound is actually the combination of two separate properties, which the owners purchased and combined in 2013.

The main house was designed by renowned architect Theodore Brown, who employed geometric design to create what he calls “mountain impressionist design style,” according to listing agent Clif Chase. The home has three bedrooms, a wine cellar, a theater, and a great room with a huge stone fireplace and 19-foot-tall windows that look out onto the lake.

The property also includes its own private sandy beach, a stone boathouse with two lifts, three buoys and a breakwater jetty with a private pier, which creates the feeling of a private bay, Chase said. There’s also a waterfall and a creek on the grounds, as well as an infinity-edge saltwater pool.

“This property has it all,” Chase said. “Wovoka means being in harmony with nature, and it really shows in how it all integrates with the natural surroundings.”

Property records show the adjacent sites were purchased for $20.9 million and $4.95 in 2013.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Bentlys formerly split their time between the Glenbrook estate and a home in San Francisco, but have relocated to Scotland. While the couple still plans to spend time in San Francisco, they are putting the Nevada distillery up for sale, according to the couple’s representative.

The couple is also selling their ranch outside the town of Minden, known as Bently Ranch, for $100 million.
