Kevin Bacon’s Childhood Home in Philadelphia Is Available for a Million Bucks

by

Before “Footloose” and a film career that’s connected him to nearly every thespian alive, actor Kevin Bacon was just a kid growing up in this 1905 red-brick townhome. Listed for $999,999, it’s located in Philadelphia’s Filter Square neighborhood, just a couple of blocks from Rittenhouse Square.

Bacon is the youngest of six children, and his late father was a city planner who conceived Philly’s Love Park. In addition to acting, Kevin performs music with his brother Michael Bacon, as the Bacon Brothers. In 2017, the siblings revealed their desire to have a historic landmark designation placed outside their childhood home.

Besides the direct Bacon connection, the residence was also the home of the British conductor Leopold Stokowski, the music director for the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1912 to 1940.

Bacon’s long and winding cinematic career has made him the topic of a “six degrees of separation” parlor game that can connect him with just about any actor—living or dead. He’s leaned into the notoriety that his lengthy career has brought, even naming his charitable organization sixdegrees.org.

Potential buyers needn’t have any ties to the actor—they only need a million bucks. The home’s been on and off the market since July 2020, when it debuted with a list price of $1,330,333. Subsequent price cuts have taken the price down to less than seven figures.

With five bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms, the 2,583-square-foot townhome on four stories is well-suited to become a family home. In addition to the Old World craftsmanship, including hardwood flooring throughout and exquisite woodwork on the staircase, the property is equipped with such modern luxuries as a built-in Miele espresso-machine station in the kitchen.

Just past the grand double-door entry is a large living room featuring a stone fireplace, and the dining room sits just beyond. A kitchen—which has been expanded since the home was built—features high-end appliances, granite countertops, and a wine fridge.

Although the home is 115 years old, the two second-floor bedrooms each have sizable closets, a rare amenity in historic properties. There’s also an adjacent spalike bathroom.

One of the two bedrooms on the third floor could be converted into a study or home office, with a wall of built-ins already in place. On the home’s top floor is the master suite, which is bathed in natural light, thanks to its multiple windows. It also features a large walk-in closet.
