If you’re a fan of the luxury goods of Tiffany & Co., take a peek at this home designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
He’s the legendary son of the company’s founder, and this grand residence represents the ultimate jewel.
On the market for $17 million, the Gilded Age estate in Boston is being marketed as the Tiffany Ayer Mansion.
Also known as the Frederick Ayer Mansion, the residence resembles a work of art thanks to its unique design and edifice.
Historically beautiful design
Built in 1902, the five-level home measures over 15,000 square feet. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
Inside, you’ll find colorful Tiffany mosaic tiles lining the stair risers. There’s also a trompe l’oeil on the landing “designed to make it look like the stairs lead up to an ancient Greek temple.”

The home is one of only two exteriors Tiffany designed and the only one that remains today.
Combined with the Tiffany-designed interiors, it can lay claim to being the only complete Tiffany home in the world.
It was originally designed for Frederick Ayer, owner of the American Woolen Co. After Ayer died in 1918, the home was sold and reconfigured for other purposes.
Over the decades, the building has served as a single-family home, office space, and a student dormitory. Today, developers plan to transform the classic interiors into a luxury residence.
MORE FROM REALTOR:
When the structure was configured as a dorm, there were a whopping 23 bedrooms. New plans call for a more modest six bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.
A luxury home for Tiffany lovers
“Its most recent use was as a women’s dorm owned by a religious order,” says co-listing agent Greta Gustafson, of LandVest. “The building has been vacant since they left, and with the advent of COVID, it couldn’t sustain being vacant. The home, though, was originally designed as a single-family house and we have positioned it as such that it would be perfect for a family.”
